De Ierse Singer/songwriter en multi-instrumentalist Christopher Delaney zal o.a. werk laten horen van zijn laatste cd "Brighten up my days". U hoort Delaney met songs en tunes op gitaar, mandoline, viool en tenor-banjo.

MARTIN HUTCHINSON

 De begenadigde en sympathieke Ierse singer-songwriter Martin Hutchinson groeide op in een zeer muzikaal gezin in Kildare, Ierland. Zijn vader speelde uillean pipes, doedelzak, piano en accordeon en leerde kleine Martin al snel de geheimen. Zo stond hij al op z’n negende naast zijn vader accordeon te spelen. Later werd dit de gitaar.

Hutchinson treedt vandaag de dag solo op met akoestisch gitaar en zang, ontdaan van alle toeters en bellen. Met zijn fingerpicking en slide-spel op gitaar brengt hij een programma met meest eigen songs in een bluesy of folky idioom. In zijn dictie herken je de tongval van zijn geboortestreek Kildare. Dat deels ingeslikte taalgebruik siert hem en geeft meteen een warm gevoel. Zijn songs gaan over al dan niet beantwoorde liefdes, afscheid, drank en gebroken harten in verstilde Ierse sferen. Martin is een kanjer op gitaar (Mark Knopfler op betere dagen !) en zelfs bij het snelle werk blijft zijn finger-picking techniek overeind. Op zijn laatste (4^de) album ‘This Time’ gloreert zijn unieke, lyrische stijl. Melodieuze folk die glinstert in een waas van Ierse mist, waarbij hij zijn opvallend direct verwoorde, afwisselend humane en ontroerende observaties omlijst met vloeiend gitaarwerk. Klonk een gitaar ooit eerder zo als een orkest? Het gitaarspel is namelijk zo subliem, dat je je op veel momenten gaat afvragen of het wel één gitaar is.

Leonard Cohen en Luka Bloom zijn de voorzichtige referenties die de redactie van Oor plaatst bij de twaalf pracht songs van zijn laatste cd. Schaamteloos persoonlijk, zonder dat er een moment naar navels wordt gestaard. Zoals in de enige traditional Maggie, dat hij uitbouwt tot een treffend portret van het harde leven van zijn zingende en drinkende grootmoeder. Martin is een verhalenverteller en gaat diep in op geobserveerde onderwerpen van het dagelijks leven. Daarnaast neemt Martin je mee op een reisje naar de melancholische wereld van de folk, de ballad en de blues. In elk liedje hoor je zijn achtergrond en bij een aantal waan je jezelf op een klif in Ierland, uitkijkend over de Atlantische oceaan, met een vreselijke kater, mijmerend over al die verloren liefdes……

Scotland’s Tannahill Weavers will bring their dynamic, traditional Celtic music to Éist a Stór on dinsdag 23 november!

The Tannahill Weavers are one of Scotland's premier traditional bands. Their diverse repertoire spans the centuries with fire-driven instrumentals, topical songs, and original ballads and lullabies. Their music demonstrates to old and young alike the rich and varied musical heritage of the Celtic people. NOEL DUTTON  Éist a stór folk

Folksinger  Noel Dutton              is al vele jaren een bekende naam bij de Folkliefhebbers in Nederland. Vanaf zijn vroege jeugd speelt muziek een grote rol in Noel's leven. Al heel jong zong en speelde hij Irish Music. Binnen korte tijd had hij zo een reputatie als Irish Folksinger opgebouwd, met optredens in heel Ierland. Hij wilde echter meer en het duurde niet lang of hij kreeg bekendheid in Duitsland en België. In deze tijd heeft hij zijn repertoire met Amerikaanse folksongs uitgebreid. Vrienden vroegen hem om naar Nederland te komen. Eenmaal hier is Den Haag zijn thuisbasis geworden.

Sfeervol decemberconcert met feestelijke hapjes.
